"This is the first time a logistics system is saving lives in a tangible manner. Every single VSAT used is a drive Soldiers don't have to take through 'ambush alley' from Baghdad to Fallujah."
--Angel Montero, Chief Warrant Officer-2, Army News Service
Background
U.S. soldiers in Iraq used to risk their lives traveling through "ambush alley" just to handle simple equipment orders and logistics. Equipment requests often took days to communicate and were very dangerous.
Need
The Army hoped to eliminate this dangerous travel by placing and tracking orders through satellite communications. This was part of the Army’s “Connecting the Logisticians” initiative.
Response
EyakTek successfully delivered satellite services to U.S. Army units both in-country and abroad. The solution has also allowed the Army to share documents, pass requisitions, collaborate and conduct meetings online, and use the telephone through voice-over-internet-protocol (VOIP), all without moving from their location.
Result
Soldiers no longer need to drive through "ambush alley" to physically check inventory. Now they can easily perform those tasks from their current location, thanks to the satellite communications EyakTek is providing. Soldiers referred to this solution as the "combat multiplier", since it provides them the time and energy to focus on battle-specific tasks, as opposed to needless travel that often endangered their lives.
